Carter’s Corner: 4 Reasons The Bucs Didn’t Call A Timeout In The 4th Quarter

Looking for unsolicited sarcastic opinion pieces that are hypocritical in nature due to the writer’s constant criticism of a league that he still covers and enjoys? Welcome to Carter’s Corner!

The Bucs had some more than interesting clock management methods in the 4th quarter of their 23-17 loss versus the Browns Sunday afternoon. They had all 3 timeouts going into the drive, yet they decided to pocket 2 of them and not use them because… well, here are some of the reasons that could be used.

1. Todd Bowles had the Browns winning as the last leg of his Thanksgiving parlay

Hey, gambling is becoming huge in America right now. And with how poorly this team has been coached this season, I wouldn’t put it past anyone on the coaching staff to be trying to make some extra money. Or maybe they’re like Michael Jordan. They don’t have a gambling problem, they have a competition problem. Whatever the fuck that means.

2. Todd Bowles gets paid by the timeout

Some people get paid by the hour, some people get paid on a yearly basis, some get commission, and Todd Bowles get paid for every time out the Bucs save during their games. It seems to be a lucrative business, because the Bucs clock management seems to be predicated on leaving those precious timeouts in their pocket.

3. Tom Brady thinks he can win Gisele back by missing the playoffs

Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen have recently divorced, and many rumors say that part of the reason was Brady’s decision to unretire. Maybe if he throws enough games and the Bucs miss the playoffs he can come home early and try and convince Gisele to take him back. “See baby, I kept throwing dump-offs every other play for you!”

4. The Bucs want to be able to go to Cancun a little early

Cancun is the popular vacation destination for many athletes and rich people in general. I’m sure many players and staff have plans to go at some point in the offseason. I mean, they’re so bad that they’re going to end up there earlier than any other playoff team, but maybe they want to cut through the bullshit and end up there after the regular season. Fuck it, might as well, right?
