Report: Buccaneers To “Explore” Signing Garoppolo

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the market for a quarterback. With the end of the season came the retirement of Tom Brady. Add to that Ryan Griffin and Blaine Gabbert’s contracts being up leaving only Kyle Trask under contract.

According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the will “explore” signing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

“The plan for Tampa Bay is to retool while still competing. This has been the plan for a couple of years,” Garafolo stated. “They knew they were going to have to pay these debts at some point. They will be in the veteran quarterback market. Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the players that they like, but they just may not have the finances to get it done.”

Buccaneers Money Issues

The Buccaneers spent the last three seasons restructuring contracts to keep a competitive team behind Brady. The Bucs are reportedly nearly $56 million over the cap, this includes $35 million of dead cap money from Brady’s contract.

Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht will have to be very creative to bring in a player like Garoppolo.
