Buccaneers Lose Brad Idzik, Interview Antwaan Randle El and Jerrod Johnson

To the shock of basically no one in the Buccaneers fan-base, Dave Canales has brought Brad Idzik in to be his OC for the Carolina Panthers. It was really cool that Canales decided to bring Idzik with him, and then take him so we have another vacancy. Do I sound bitter?

Well, after Ben Johnson decided to stay with the Lions again, I am a little upset. It seems like Dave Canales will still call plays for the Panthers, but the team still needs a OC obviously. The two are basically best buds and like Canales, Idzik has been a position coach in Seattle for a while. However, this does open the door for Greg Olsen to join the coaching staff.

However, in better news, the Bucs did interview the wide receivers coach for the Lions in Antwaan Randle El and Texans QB coach in Jerrod Johnson. Randle El actually started his coaching career in Tampa as an offensive assistant in 2019-2020. He did coach Amon-Ra St. Brown to become a pretty good WR and the other guys had been solid until medusa caught their hands.

However, if Johnson is as good an OC as he is developing QBs, we may be getting somebody here. While the receiving corp for the Texans may have actually been better than the rest of the NFL world realized, CJ Stroud was a very good QB. It can be argued that Stroud was naturally good and Johnson didn’t have to do much. However, I refuse to believe that Johnson did nothing to help Stroud become the player that he is now. While Alex Van pelt did appeal to me in terms of familiarity with Baker, these guys both seem like solid choices for OC.
