Special Teams, Not So Special in Tampa!

The kicker on an NFL team is somewhat of an unknown player, because usually the only time they are noticed is when they make or miss a potential game-winning kick. The kicking game has been an eye sore for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They brought in free agent Nick Folk this off-season, with the hopes that it would be the push that Roberto Aguayo needed. But their efforts failed. Aguayo was cut from the Buccaneers after one season. That means all the problems are solved right? Think again, Nick Folk missed an opening drive extra point and a 47 yard field goal in the 4th quarter.

Coach Koetter was asked, “How he could ensure this wouldn’t happen again?”  The answer is he can’t. Over the last four seasons Folk made at least 82% of his kicks and only missed two extra points. Folk is a proven veteran and most believe he will be the answer in Tampa. The free agent market is bleak. If Folk cannot get the job done, then special teams could be the one thing that keeps Tampa out of the playoffs again.
