Bucs Shopping McCoy for a Second Round Pick??? – Kyle Riddle

Rumor has it that Bucs GM Jason Licht is currently trying to work out a trade that would send DT Gerald McCoy to the Raiders in exchange for a second round pick. To this writer, this trade sounds like complete lunacy. McCoy has been a main cog in this defense since he was drafted with the 3rd overall pick in 2010. He’s the straw that stirs the drink on the defense.

In my opinion, right now McCoy is a top 5 DT in the NFL. Even without any help along the defensive line he has made it to 6 straight pro bowls and is a 3 time first team All Pro. His quickness off the snap is incredible, and he is always first to jump off the snap.

Yes, McCoy is 30 years old, but age is just a number and he is worth more than a second round pick. Even at 30 he could still play out the rest of his contract and not have any drop in production. Trading him for a second round pick would weaken an already rocky defensive line.

Who knows what you’ll get with a second round pick, maybe a potential bust? So basically, what I’m trying to say is, “Don’t do it Jason Licht!”
