Bucs Report Mock Draft 1.0 – By BritBuc

The first edition of the Bucs Report Mock Draft is here. It’s still early days and as we all know rankings and draft stock will rise and fall over the next 4 months. For this early edition, I’ll focus on the Buccaneers first three selections, assuming no trades.

Round 1: Bradley Chubb – DE – N.C. State

With the only team ahead of the Buccaneers likely to be looking for a DE being the Colts, this will be a toss-up between Chubb or Key being available. Looking at the Colts I suspect they will go for the size and likely faster 40 time of Arden Key. This would leave the Bucs in Prime position to take Chubb and provide some talent to the D line. Hopefully, Spence and Chubb will be the bookends of a much-improved pass rush.

Round 2: Braden Smith – OG – Auburn

With Quenton Nelson long gone and the FO having concerns about the remaining O line prospects they call the name of the 6ft 6, 300 pound Smith in the hopes of keeping Winston upright in the pocket. Smith is equally good in pass protection and his size should help create running lanes. Will need to add strength to measure up to NFL linemen on a down by down basis.

Round 3: Mike Hughes – CB – Central Florida

Interesting selection here as Hughes is a ballhawk with a high upside and could definitely be a day 1 starter. Would also be an option for special teams as showed good ability for the Knights. Likely slips into round 3 as some teams feel he should have stayed in school another year to develop.
