Player Profile: Deandre Baker (Cornerback, Georgia)

Deandre Baker

Georgia, Senior

5’11”, 180 lbs.

Overview: Deandre is expected to get picked in the middle or the end of the first round in most NFL mock drafts. He is, without a doubt, one of the best defensive backs in the 2019 draft. The Buccaneers should target him late in the first round after trading down and acquiring additional much-needed picks.

Pros: Very physical and plays aggressively, especially at the line of scrimmage. Outstanding skills in press coverage. He is great at playing against the run and excels at jamming receivers to keep them from getting away from him. Has experience as an outside corner on both sides and as a nickel cornerback as well.

Cons: Lacks top-end speed to run with elite receivers, which is a major concern. Gives up big plays often when unable to get his hands on the receiver after the snap. Very light frame at only 180 pounds. Needs to find a way to get off blocks better when playing run support.
