Apollos/Commanders Preview

Well, the Apollos got off to a hell of a good start the first week of AAF play. Next up is the San Antonio Commanders.

San Antonio is also coming off a victory (15-6) over the San Diego Fleet. The Fleet had been the AAF preseason favorite in the power rankings, so the victory by San Antonio was no small feat. With the Fleets HC Mike Martz at the helm, San Antonio wasn’t given great odds of success in that game.

The Apollos were outstanding in their 40-6 win over the Atlanta Legends and will probably be favorites to add another victory in next week’s matchup. The two teams are familiar with each other since they practiced together during the AAF preseason, and in their scrimmage game the Apollos won a close game 38-32.

This in no way guarantees an Apollos victory. And coming off a game like the one they just did, there may be some letdown involved.

If the Apollos’ defense can match its intensity from the last game I still believe the Apollos come out of this game on top. I don’t feel there will be much advantage for San Antonio at their home field since the Apollos spent most of the preseason there.

No matter how you look at it, it should be a great game. The edge goes to the Apollos’ offense, which, if they play even half as well as they did opening night with all their weapons and some defensive play, it should be another win for the Ole Ball Coach.

Orlando 33-16
