Apollos Roll To 6-1, Clinch Playoff Spot

The 5-1 Orlando Apollos traveled to Atlanta to take on the 2-4 Legends looking to bounce back from the 22-17 loss to the Arizona Hotshots.

The Apollos took the opening snap and drove methodically down the field capped off by a 1 yard TD run by De’Veon Smith.

 

End of 1st quarter: Apollos 8 Legends 0.

The Legends answered with a 15 play, 75 yard drive that ended with an 8 yard Malachi Jones TD reception.

Orlando responded in kind with its own 15 play, 75 yard TD drive that featured Gilbert’s arm and a solid running attack. De’Veon Smith got the call on 3rd and goal from the 2 and he delivered again.

14-6 Apollos at the Half.

Atlanta’s offense sputtered to start the 2nd half and punted back to Orlando.

The Apollos wasted no time in marching down the field for De’veon Smith’s 3rd TD of the game. 20-6 Orlando.

The Legends offensive struggles continued when Aaron Murray threw an errant ball that was picked off and returned for a TD by Deji Olatoye to increase the Apollos lead to 28-6 and the route appeared to be on.

The Legends put together a drive taking them all the way inside the 5 yard line before Apollo’s’ DB Cody Riggs stepped in front of an Aaron Murray pass to force a 2nd turnover by the Legends.

Orlando’s offense didn’t slow down taking the ball from their own 4 yard line and killing nearly 7 minutes off of the clock. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert hit Charles Johnson for a 7 yard TD pass.

Pushing the lead to 36-6 Apollos

Atlanta was never able to get anything else going. The two teams exchanged possessions throughout the end of the 4th quarter.
