Mike Edwards: Goal is to win the championship

Following Saturday’s press conference with safety Mike Edwards during day two of training camp, one thing became clear; he’s hungry. Through the numerous questions fielded to him, a constant underlying theme for the third-round pick was his focus on doing his part to help the team win it all on the game’s biggest stage.

Adjusting from college to the pros is not always an easy task, as evidenced by some of Edwards side-remarks. During this time of the year, it is very much a “sink or swim” mentality for rookies as they quickly approach their first NFL season. Some learn to make an instant impact, like WR Mike Evans, while others fall flat their first year out, such as RB Ronald Jones.

Edwards is saying all the right things when it comes to preparing for his inaugural season in the league. Time will tell how far his preparations will take him. For now, though, he’s a hungry rookie from Kentucky willing to do whatever it takes, in whatever role, to bring another Lombardi home to Tampa Bay.
