Penalties and a lack of communication

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers Friday night 30-28. The game started off well for the Buccaneers offense taking the opening kickoff and marching down the field on the back of a solid rushing attack and strong performance by quarterback Jameis Winston.

The defense started off looking good but as the game went on penalties and miscommunications started to emerge. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians wasn’t happy.

Arians spoke to the media on several subjects about the defenses performance. Here are few quotes that stuck out,

Arians on Noah Spence’s hands to the face penalty, ” That changed the whole game. That’s one of those plays that can’t happen. We can’t have hands to the face, that changed the whole momentum of the ballgame. Those are things we need to work out.” The penalty by Spence erased and interception by Vernon Hargreaves.

Arians on the rookie defensive backs performance, ” A lack of communication, they’re going to have to do a much better job.” Arians went on, “Bunting didn’t show up tonight. I would like to see him show up and get his hand on the ball.”

Penalties and lack of communication are a concern no doubt. While the Buccaneers are only one week into preseason it’s obvious head coach Bruce Arians isn’t happy with the defenses performance.
