Shaq Barrett exceeds expectations

The Buccaneers have spent several years and millions of dollars looking for a preeminent pass rusher. You can go ahead and check that box off.

Buccaneers LB Shaq Barrett leads the league in sacks (14.5) and forced fumbles (6). No, you didn’t read that wrong. Barrett is on pace to set two Buccaneers single-season records. Warren Sapp‘s single-season sack record (16.5) and the Buccaneers single-season forced fumble record (7) held by Broderick Thomas and Stylez White.

Barrett signed a one-year deal this past offseason for roughly $4 million depending on which incentives he reaches. It would appear he will not only reach most of those incentives but surpass them.

This offseason the Buccaneers have a lot of decisions to make about who to bring back and who to move on from. I’d say it’s pretty much guaranteed that Barrett will be one of the priorities to resign.
