Winston closes in on Manning record

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Indianapolis Colts Sunday 38-35. When you as a team turn the ball over 5 times and still win it’s a major accomplishment. Speaking of accomplishments, Jameis Winston had a few of note Sunday.

Winston threw for a career-high 465 yards against the Colts. He also became the all-time passing yardage leader by age 26. Unfortunately, he also inched towards a not so astute record.

Winston throws interceptions, a lot of them. It’s an unfortunate byproduct of his game. More often than not the defense tends to bail him out. The problem here is the defense can only do so much and can do nothing to stop a pick-six. So when Winston threw his fifth pick-six of the season, the team, the fans, and even the announcers were speechless. That fifth pick-six puts Winston one behind the all-time record for pick-sixes in a season. The record is held by none other than Peyton Manning. Not exactly the Manning record you want to be chasing.

Now before you start screaming that Winston is in his fifth year and shouldn’t be throwing pick-sixes, keep in mind Manning was in his fourth season when he set the record.

In the interest of fairness, I feel we should post all of Winston’s records.

The Buccaneers have a huge decision ahead of them with Jameis Winston. Do they franchise tag him? Sign him to a long-term deal or just cut ties with him altogether? One thing is for sure, there’s never a dull moment when it comes to Jameis Winston, regardless of what jersey he wears or throws too.
