Which Rookie Will Make The Biggest Impact For The Bucs?

0

Each year NFL teams hope to find that rookie or rookies in the draft that will contribute to their club immediately. Sometimes it’s their first round picks, and other times it’s the later rounds. No matter which round they’re chosen in, they all have the opportunity to make a difference. Now that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made their draft picks, it’s time to see which rookie will have the biggest impact.

The Rookies

The Buccaneers had a great draft overall and really strengthened their team. They mostly focused on offense this year, with four out of the seven players they drafted were offensive players.

Their first pick was for Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, who will have the job of protecting Tom Brady’s right side. They also took stud wide receiver Tyler Johnson in the fifth round.

But they did take some great talent on defense like safety Antoine Winfield Jr. out of the University of Minnesota. They also took linebacker Chapelle Russell and Khalil Davis. Although they aren’t the big names everyone knows, they are still incredibly talented players.

Biggest Impact

With a handful of young talent, I believe the player who will have the biggest impact will be Antoine Winfield Jr. He adds depth at the safety position and will thrive in Todd Bowles’ defense.

Winfield reminds me a lot of Johnathan Abram from the Las Vegas Raiders. Both players are quick to the ball and play with serious intensity. Winfield has the advantage of playing with other incredible defensive talents like Shaquil Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul.

Why Will He Make An Impact?

Drafting Winfield was an absolute steal in the second round of the NFL Draft. Not only does he have an extremely high football IQ, he’s also fast. He’s quick off the ball and does a great job at reading the quarterback.

In 2019, Winfield had seven interceptions and had a total of 98 yards off of interceptions. He also had 83 total tackles in 2019, 53 of those tackles were solo tackles. He plays like a tornado with arms and is always causing a disruption to the offense. His ability to make solo tackles can be compared to Jordan Whitehead.

What the Winfield pick did was make an already terrifying defense even scarier. The Bucs didn’t take the best available, they stole it. Now other teams will have to fear Tampa Bay’s defense for years to come.
