Only a few weeks stand between us and the start of NFL training camp. The NFL has almost completed their COVID-19 protocol. The only thing yet to be finalized is the number of preseason games and testing guidelines.
Update on where things stand 18 days out:
— Almost everything is done and agreed to except for number of preseason games and testing protocols.
— No fans will be at training camp, but teams can have up to two fan events at stadiums this preseason with strict protocols if allowed— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 10, 2020
The NFL wanted to cut down from four to two preseason games only a few weeks earlier, but the NFLPA has voiced their concern, opting to eliminate the preseason all together.
As it relates to training camp, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that fans will not be allowed to attend. Teams can opt to hold a fan event in the stadium as long as they follow strict protocol per their home states.
The 2020 NFL season will be a far stretch from normal, even if all 16 games are played. Players and fans will have to make sacrifices for it to be a success. But the health and safety of everyone involved is what matters most.
