Did the Buccaneers Break into PFT’s Top-5 Power Rankings?

Pro Football Talk released their 2020-preseason power rankings for all 32 teams. The top five belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints. Where are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? The Bucs hold the sixth spot on the list, and that’s a little insulting.

The Buccaneers are a much better team than the Patriots, both offensively and defensively. If they are basing this list off of the 2019 season, I get it. But we’re talking about 2020.

A lot has happened to the Bucs since the year started. First, they get Tom Brady in free agency. That alone makes them a top-five team and much better than the Patriots. They re-signed their front seven, the best-run defense in the NFL in 2019.

The Bucs drafted very well, adding to the offensive line and getting a solid running back, while also helping the secondary. They also drafted their possible wide receiver three in Tyler Johnson. Oh yeah, and they traded for Rob Gronkowski. Tampa Bay has had a historic offseason.

All that New England really has done is sign Cam Newton for one year. Does that make them better than the Buccaneers? Not even close. I get it. They still have Bill Belichick running the team. But as for talent, the Bucs are miles ahead of them and most teams in the league.

It’s shocking to think there’s still a New England bias, even without Brady. I just don’t see them as a top-five team. The Buccaneers have the talent on both sides of the ball, plus they have a great coaching staff. Although the Patriots signed Newton, it’s still a major uncertainty he can stay healthy. Or even lead them to the postseason.

The Buccaneers are still underdogs to some people, even being a top 10 team in the NFL. And although the Bucs have a lot to prove with all the changes, they are still a top-five team in the league. Not the Patriots.
