Is Carlton Davis a top 10 cornerback in the NFL? Bruce Arians seems to think so. In a Tuesday Zoom interview, Arians said he thinks Carlton Davis is already one of the league’s 10 best cornerbacks, that he already took a major step in his play during last season
Interestingly enough, Davis ranked second in the NFL in passes defended, only behind Stephon Gilmore.
But I think top 10 is a bit strong at this point in Davis’ career. He was targeted 105 times (3rd) and only had one interception in 2019. Pro Football Focus also graded Davis with a 70.4, good, but not top 10 good.
Davis will need to improve his nose for the football in 2020 if he hopes to be a top 10 corner. He has all of the intangibles, and even shut down DeAndre Hopkins in week 16 last season.
We will see if Davis can leap into the elite category in 2020, but for now, he is an ascending player looking to make a name for himself.
