Kyle Trask Draws Lofty Comparison From Bruce Arians

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians spoke with the media Tuesday after Day 4 of OTAs and one of his more notable quotes was the comparison he drew to Kyle Trask.

Trask was the 64th overall pick by the Buccaneers in the 2021 NFL draft. After four days of voluntary OTAs, Arians compared Trask’s mental game to that of a former No. 1 overall pick.

No, not that former number one overall pick.

“Mentally, [Trask] isn’t far behind what Andrew did in the same offense, what Andrew did that year was unbelievable,” Arians said Tuesday. “I’m not saying he is Andrew Luck, but mentally he is really, really sharp.”

This is, as always, the silly-season when it comes to hot takes and quotes, but still. It’s impressive to hear that Trask is on the same mental plane as someone who was course to make the Hall Of Fame in Luck.

Trask has stiff competition for a backup role in Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin heading into training camp. Was this simply a case of Arians giving the rookie a boost of confidence? Or, could Trask be the legitimate successor to Tom Brady? Mentally, Bruce Arians thinks so. Now, it’s about how everything translates to the field.
