Buccaneers’ Bowles Impressed by UDFA Wide Receiver

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a bevy of talent at the wide receiver position heading into the 2022 NFL season. The wide receiver depth chart will be a little wonky to start the season with Chris Godwin still recovering from his knee injury. With that comes more opportunities for the rest of the receivers to impress during offseason programs.

This year’s training camp will be key for receivers like Breshad Perriman, Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller to battle for positions on the depth chart, or even the team. At this point it looks like the team will start the season with Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Breshad Perriman, after that, it looks to be a wide open competition.

You can add another name to this list, undrafted free agent Deven Thompkins. Recently, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles talked about Thompkins performance thus far this offseason.

“I would love to see what Thompkins does in training camp,” Bowles stated. “He’s quick, he’s fast, he’s explosive off of the ball and he’s made some good catches…I’ll be looking at him.”

Thompkins went undrafted out of Utah State this year where he posted exceptional numbers last season. As we mentioned earlier in this article, the Buccaneers have a lot of talent at the wide receiver position. Thompkins is most likely battling with players like Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden and Tyler Johnson for depth chart position. While he might be a longshot, Thompkins has already caught Bowles eye. This training camp battle is definitely something to keep an eye on.
