Buccaneers’ Bowles, “I Think Guys That Are Living Off The Super Bowl Are Living In A Fantasyland”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-18, and it really didn’t feel that close. The table was set for the Bucs to roll into Pittsburgh and dominate the Steelers.

Pittsburgh was without multiple starters heading into the game including their top three defensive backs. So what gives? Did the team take the Steelers lightly, or is this just a mediocre Buccaneers’ team?

Head coach Todd Bowles attempted to to make sense of it in his post-game press conference.

“We didn’t take them lightly, number one. Number two, I think guys that are living off the Super Bowl are living in a fantasyland, and you gotta get your hands dirty and go to work like everybody else,” Bowles stated. “We’ve been working hard, and we gotta work harder.” Bowles went on, “The time for talking is over, you either got to put up, or shut up.”

The Steelers were 1-4 heading into the game and not a very productive football team. Pinning their hopes on rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett, then on Mitch Trubisky after Pickett left with an injury, the Steelers were outmatched on paper. So it’s easy to see how the Bucs may have taken this Pittsburgh team lightly. And yes, there may be some truth to Bowles statement of some players “living off the Super Bowl”. Neither are an acceptable excuse for a team with this much talent.
