Buccaneers’ White: “I Got A Job To Do”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White has taken some heat this season from the fans and media. Some of it justified, some not.

White went from Defensive Player of the Month to a former Buccaneer calling for his captain’s patch. All in on season. Yes, there’s been some questionable play by White in coverage. And yes we all saw the play Sapp pointed out where White was loafing.

White’s passion for the game has never been questioned. He’s a fiery leader who is never at a loss for words.

White recently spoke with the media who asked about his play this season. More specifically with James Yarcho of Bucs Nation. The Buccaneers’ team captain was contrite with his response.

“I just feel like at a point in the season, I had a lot of off the field things going on that was really hindering me from being so dialed in like I normally am from football. Literally I had to wake up and realize, like, ‘don’t mess up on this great opportunity ahead of you. Getting to go play with your brothers on Sundays because you got other things going on. You handle those things when you leave, but when you’re dialed in you need to be all the way dialed in.’

White continued…

“Obviously, when I’m playing football, I got a job to do and I need to execute at a high level. I just had to snap back into reality and make sure that I was doing right by myself and putting myself in the best position to be successful. Once I did that, I was able to just get back to being who I am, loving the game of football, playing with a lot of energy, having fun. Just getting back to being myself.”

Devin White has all the tools to be an elite linebacker in this league. His ability to cover sideline to sideline is uncanny. White’s pursuit is top-notch. Where he needs to improve is pass coverage and finishing tackles. And by the sounds of it, that’s exactly what White plans to do.
