Gronkowski Contacted Buccaneers About Returning

Former Buccaneers’ tight end Rob Gronkowski contacted the team around Thanksgiving about potentially returning to play.

As reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Gronkowski has stayed in shape and has had several conversations with the team.

“It was more of a conversation than anything else,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “Usually, when you have to think about playing, you probably don’t want to play. When it’s just a discussion, I didn’t think much of it at the time.”

The discussion was to sign Gronkowski to the practice squad so he’d have time to get in football shape. Ultimately it appears Gronk has decided to stay retired.

The fact that this report states Gronkowski initiated the contact tells us he wants to return. How the Buccaneers couldn’t get this done is the million dollar question.
