For many new Buccaneers’ fans, their only memory is one of winning and inspiring football. That is entirely new, as this team had fans doing mock drafts in November.
Throughout all the losing, missed kicks and even a Super Bowl, the one constant in Tampa Bay has been Mike Evans. That’s why it should be no surprise that he put up one of his best games ever to save the Bucs season and send them to the playoffs.
There is no doubt that Evans isn’t having his best season, but discussions about him make it seem like he’s having a bad one. The touchdowns aren’t there, but that has turned out to be a team problem, as it has seemed impossible to get into the end zone.
Going into last Sunday, the Bucs were facing the Panthers in what was a must win game to make the playoffs. Evans not only had one of his best games ever, he did it in crucial times and made it possible to win.
His first long touchdown came when the Bucs just got down 14-0. Without that score, this game could’ve been over before it even got to halftime.
His second and third touchdowns came in the fourth and single-handedly gave the Bucs the lead after trailing by 11 at the start of the fourth quarter.
This game will be looked back at with fondness from Bucs fans. It was one of my favorite games ever, and that doesn’t happen without Mike Evan’s amazing performance.
Evans is still building up his hall of fame resume and I think if he keeps this pace up he will be a no doubt Hall of Famer. Besides his legacy, this performance stands for something entirely different. It shows that Evans has got Bucs’ nation back no matter what. No matter how many targets he gets or touchdown he accounts for or even wins, he has always been there. He does this all while playing a “diva like” position. It is no doubt that we aren’t where we are without Evans, and I feel that he doesn’t get enough praise.
