Injury Updates

  • Derrek Pitts. The Buccaneers cornerback missed the Week 4 win against the New Orleans Saints due to a hamstring injury. In Week 5, he’s fully recovered and is all good to go for the game against Detroit this Sunday. However, he will likely be placed on special teams as the team continues forward.

  • Calijah Kancey.  Kancey is a Pitts rookie, and both drafted just this year’s 2023 NFL Draft. As unfortunate as it sounds, this defensive tackle also received an injury in Week 1. His calf injury from the training camp was reported as not serious. However, as of writing this article, Kancey is still battling his calf injury, but everyone is looking forward to how his return can significantly shift the Buccaneers’ power.

  • Jamel Dean. Cornerback Jamel Dean’s incident took everyone by surprise. During the Buccaneers’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, the cornerback sustained a neck injury, which caused him to sideline for Week 4. Fortunately, he’s ready to participate after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 5 bye.

  • SirVocea Dennis. The linebacker could play two snaps on defense against their Week 1 opponent, the Vikings until he sustained a hamstring injury. This incident caused him to miss the Buccaneers’ last three games as he tried to recover. Fortunately, as of this writing, reports released that he’s now up and ready for an entire season practice in Week 6.

News Updates

Since the 2023 NFL regular season is reaching the mid-season, there isn’t any significant news yet for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Still, there are headlines that you should be aware of, especially as a fan or a bettor. Here are some things you can look into to see what’s up with the Buccaneers these past few weeks.

Buccaneers Finally Announce Team Captains

Unlike the other teams in the league where the captains are established since Week 1, Tampa Bay settled for the wait-and-see approach this season and voted for the captain. After a long process, the team has finally announced their eight captains this season. Namely:

  • QB Baker Mayfield, 6
  • WR Mike Evans, 13
  • WR Chris Godwin, 14
  • T Tristan Wirfs, 78
  • S Antoine Winfield, JR, 31
  • LB Devin White, 45
  • NT Vita Vea, 50
  • LB Lavonte David, 54

In this list, there are a few things to take note of. First, there are no captains for the special teams this year. Meanwhile, there are four captains for the offense and four for the defense. The next point is that several first-time captains are on the list, including Antoine Winfield Jr., Chris Godwin, and Tristan Wirfs.

Additionally, many fans are calling out Devin White after his social media posts and trade demand that says he shouldn’t be a captain. On the other hand, Tristan Wirfs was more outspoken about his desire to participate in a larger leadership role. As such, his teammates heard this calling, observed his improvements, and chose him as one of the leaders.

Aside from these, a lot of things also happened before reaching this conclusion. Ultimately, these eight captains will wear their patches for the world to see as they continue the rest of the season.

Final Thoughts

As one of the greatest teams in the league, it’s no wonder many fans wait for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s especially true now after the retirement of the former star player and quarterback, Tom Brady. Again, the updates you see here are only the mid-season happenings, and changes will definitely occur as the 2023 NFL regular season continues to move forward. So, there will be a lot to take on from here.
