Where is Buccaneers’ Chris Godwin?

Anyone seen him?

There’s been a lot going on with Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin. Or, should I say, his wife, Mariah Godwin. Let’s just say she was not exactly thrilled with how Godwin has been used. or not been used. Basically, she said that Bowles was spouting a big ole pile of bullshit about Godwin being subbed out a lot due to injury.

If you were to look at his snap count, the fan would instantly see what she is talking about.

You can see he played almost 84% of snaps against the Panthers if you look at that bottom row. Which is more or less consistent with what he had been doing all season. Yes, he was on the injury report before the game, but he still played this many snaps. And he looked fine on the field. Bowles does know the snap counts of Godwin. Though I have called him stupid, he is not that dumb.

The average fan may blame Baker for not getting the ball to Godwin more. And while I will say he is definitely part of the issue, that does not fully address the problem. Because Godwin only had 3 targets, it seems like the bigger issue is the fact he isn’t being schemed open. If Baker is targeting Trey Palmer more, that is an issue with Dave Canales. He is not getting one of his best play makers open. I did like the WR run that got Godwin into the endzone, but he needs to get involved in the passing game. Since, you know, it says receiver next to his name, not RB.

This is an issue that has constantly come up in this offense. This coaching staff constantly bemoans the fact that Godwin isn’t getting the ball. I’m sorry, but you aren’t fans on the couch. You are the ones designing this offense. It is your responsibility to get your 2nd best wideout the ball. I don’t know how many times people have to keep talking about this, but here we are. This offense should be targeting two players the most in the passing game. One of those guys is being targeted, which is good. But the Buccaneers would be wise to get the other one in there. Or else it won’t just be his wife that’s angry.
