Buccaneers Dominate Jaguars 30-12

Where has this Buccaneers team been?

I went into this game being pretty confident the Buccaneers could handle this team. I did not see this coming. The Bucs strangled the Jaguars for almost the entirety of the game. That first half was one the most complete half of football the Bucs have played in a long while.

Everything that could go right for the did. Though the Buccaneers could not manage a TD on their opening drive again, they quickly had another chance when Devin White picked off Trevor Lawrence. Yes, your eyes are not failing you. Devin White picked off a pass after being benched. That set the Bucs up for the first of two Mike Evans touchdowns. The Bucs forced three turnovers from the Jaguars in the first half. One pick by White, another by Winfield Jr, and a third by Yaya Diaby strip sack.

Both Winfield Jr and Diaby had amazing games. Winfield Jr had one sack, one fumble recovery, and one interception. On top of a pass defended. And Diaby had a 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one tackle for loss. Just an insane game from the young guns. But Lavonte David also made sure to remind the young’uns that he still has it with one sack. Just a monster game from the defense. Which is to be expected when you shut your opponent out for most the game.

Despite the offense getting such a lead, this game was really nothing special offensively speaking. Mike Evans went sicko mode as to be expected and Baker Mayfield was efficient again. However, Rachaad White had a very pedestrian game. He had 39 rush yards on 20 attempts. He did get a td and was pretty good as a pass catcher, but the rushing attack was not there. It is about what I expected as the Jags have a pretty good run defense. Offense did what was needed and there were a few splash plays.

If I had to complain about anything, it will be the coaching staff being very complacent in the second half. The Bucs just let off the gas. I get we were up thirty, but I still don’t like letting up so much. And I don’t know why Baker was in the game for as long as he was. If the plan really was to run the ball, do the coaches really not trust Kyle Trask to hand the ball off or to not blow a 30 point game. It was just really head scratching in a game with mostly good coaching decisions.

I am very excited about this Bucs team now. The Jaguars weren’t a pushover, and the Bucs handled them easily. Not only that, but the defense, despite letting up way too many 3rd and longs, came through. Todd Bowles also being aggressive was not something I had on my bingo card either. Hopefully the Buccaneers can keep this going and manage to clinch the division next week.
