,The Tampa Bay Buccaneers season came to an end in the Divisional Round in Detroit against the Lions. Shortly after falling 31-23 quarterback Baker Mayfield spoke with the media.
During his press conference, Mayfield was asked about wide receiver Mike Evans. Mayfield paid his respects to him, and then transitioned into talking about returning to Tampa next year.
Via Fox Sports’ Greg Auman,
“He makes my life easy, he did all year. He did it today, over and over. To get everybody back, there have to be sacrifices made. This team’s about winning. We have a group of guys who are all about that. If I’m back, I want Mike back.”
For Mayfield to talk about making “sacrifices” in order to get everyone back is one thing. To throw in the caveat of “If I’m back, I want Mike back”, is a huge sign Mayfield and Evans will return in 2024.
The Pewter Pirates have a laundry list of players that need re-signing this offseason. Starting with the aforementioned Mayfield and Evans, they’re looking at Tristan Wirfs, Devin White, Antoine Winfield Jr, and Lavonte David all needing contracts addressed in some form. Hearing the team’s quarterback immediately talking about players making sacrifices in relations to contracts is a great sign and just another reason to like Mayfield.

The Bucs definitely have their work cut out for them this offseason. But never fear, general manager Jason Licht and company have kind of made massaging the salary cap their thing.
