The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are releasing outside linebacker Shaq Barrett per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Per Schefter,
“Barrett had a $15.04 million option bonus due next month. Instead of collecting it, he now will become a free agent.”
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles on Barrett’s release via Good Morning Football,
“Shaq has been great for us over the last 5 years, but these tough decisions have to be made. Who knows we’ll see what happens down the line.”

Barrett joined the Bucs as a free agent in 2019 after starting his career in Denver. He is the Franchise single-season sack record holder with 19.5 in 2019.

“Bucs will save about $5 million in 2024 cap space by releasing Barrett. Because of previous restructures, they wlll take on $26.7 million in dead money, with about $9.3m this year and $17.4m in 2025.”
