Is it destiny for Alex Cappa to start?

Welcome everyone to BucsReport.com with Buccaneer Blake. The Buccaneers have yet to shore up the RG position this offseason, and it has been a really interesting position to watch so far. Dirk Koetter and the rest of the offensive coaching staff have a few more weeks of pre-season to figure out the right combination to put Tampa Bay in the best position to win.

At the moment it is an open race for the starting right guard spot, but I honestly believe Alex Cappa will come in and steal that spot from Benenoch this pre-season. Benenoch hasn’t been able to separate himself too far from the rest of the pack. With Wester’s injury coupled with Benenoch’s own injury and inconsistency, it leaves Cappa with the opportunity to show out these final three pre-season games and take the starting gig.

With that said, let’s not forget about Evan Smit, who should provide good depth at center and both guard spots. The only way I see Smith starting at guard is, if Benenoch and Cappa just look unpolished out there and Koetter is forced to play the clever veteran over the young men. At any rate, Smith is an insurance policy for the line.

With the Bucs slated to play the Titans later this week, make sure to pay attention to the offensive line combinations in the game. As his early personal combinations could show Koetter’s thoughts on who will be the starting five linemen will provide the much-needed offensive line support that was so desperately need in 2018.
