Under Dirk Koetter, Jameis Winston and Doug Martin both shined brighter than the sun. They deserve all the mentions they are getting for the performances they put on this season. The Bust and the Has Been proved to be anything, but those nicknames and are well deserving of our respect.
“The list of accolades for Buccaneers running back Doug Martin and quarterback Jameis Winston may get a little longer. Both offensive players were named as nominees for league-wide awards. Martin is in the running for FedEx Ground Player of the Year and Winston’s name is in the mix for Pepsi Rookie of the Year and Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Year. Martin is up against Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson and St. Louis’ Todd Gurley for his award, which recognizes the league’s best running back. Winston faces off against Gurley, Oakland wide receiver Amari Cooper, Seattle wide receiver/return man Tyler Lockett and Kansas City cornerback Marcus Peters for the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award. Joining the Bucs’ rookie signal caller in the Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Year race are New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown, New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski and Oakland defensive end/linebacker Khalil Mack.” – Reported by Eric Horchy
