As a solid free safety, this makes a whole lot of sense. Chris Conte, who is deemed “Lovie’s Boy,” and hated for such, is in part a major reason why Tampa allowed the fewest passes of over 20 yards last year.
He is not the best free safety in the league but, resigning him means that the Bucs do not have to go out and pick up one. If Tandy, Major Wright, and McDougald also return, I would be in full confidence that the safety position would be locked up, and there would absolutely be no worries in the deep pass defend. The pass rush was one of the major reason to why the secondary was subpar. Acquiring a corner wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I wouldn’t break the bank to do so.
