Alterraun Verner has been in the doghouse this season with Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith. With the play of Vernon Hargreaves and Brent Grimes being stellar this year, Jonathan Banks was shipped to Detroit and Verner was forced to spectate. Then Grimes suffered a quad injury that forced the former pro bowl corner Verner into gameplay for the rest of the day. Alterraun filled in nicely as he logged three tackles, two passes defended, and helped the defense hand in a dominating performance, against the Chiefs. If Brent Grimes misses any time due to this quad injury, Verner will have another opportunity to contribute to the defense’s success and show everyone that he is still a Pro Bowl caliber defensive back.
