Donnie Abraham reunites with Lovie Smith at Illinois

Lovie Smith has made big changes since joining the Illini last year. He has already former Buccaneers linebacker Hardy Nickerson to his staff and now, has brought in a former Bucs cornerback, Donnie Abraham to work with the secondary.

Abraham, who is second only to Ronde Barber in career interceptions for Tampa, was brought in by Lovie to help a secondary that had struggled to defend against the pass last year. The veteran corner has plenty of credentials when it comes to the secondary, having played 9 seasons in the NFL, recording 38 interceptions, 31 of them with the Buccaneers, 124 solo tackles, and returned three picks for touchdowns. Abraham also coached at many Bay Area high schools.

This is a solid hire for a team being rebuilt by Lovie Smith and could make the Illini relevant, in a tough Big10 conference.
