The 49ers and veteran WR Torrey Smith will part ways.

Torrey Smith confirmed his release via his Instagram. Last year Smith was available for trade and the Eagles were reported to be an interested party, but the trade deadline came faster than a deal could be made. Smith struggled his last two season with the 49ers and his $9.4 million cap hit makes his release sensible.

The Ravens drafted Smith in 2011, and there are already rumors that he could return to his former team as he has many ties with the organization and within the community. The Ravens do need some receivers but are not likely to look towards Smith’s direction as they weren’t very aggressive in re-signing him prior to his signing with the 49ers.

In his two seasons with the 49ers, Smith caught 53 passes for 930 yards and 7 touchdowns and to the 49ers that wasn;t hardly worth his 5-year $40 million contract. But then again the 49ers QB situation has been subpar.
