Will The Bucs Make Hargreaves Position Change A Permanent One?

During Sundays game we saw a change of Hargreaves inside to nickel, an adjustment that paid off, considering VH3 played significantly better than previous games. “Yeah, I think Vern played better, obviously when you’re playing nickel, depending on what the other team does with their personnel, you know, his snap count was basically cut in half. That’s dictated by how much nickel defense that we’re in, but we were pleased with the way Vern responded, and that’s the first step.” said Koetter.

But now the question is, will the position change be permanent?

According to Dirk Koetter, that all depends on injuries. More specifically, the fact that McClain, who switched positions with Hargreaves for the Bills game, was placed on concussion protocol following Sunday’s game. Coach Koetter addressed that during Monday’s press conference, after being asked if the changes will continue, “Well, that’s all going to depend on injuries, you only have so many guys who can play corner and so many guys who can play nickel, and Robert McClain, who we moved outside, is now in concussion protocol, so that’ll have some play in it.”

If McClain is unable to play in the next game against Carolina, could that push Hargreaves back to the outside, or will they make other adjustments to keep him inside the slot? Only time will tell.  I, personally, would like to see him stay at nickel, for now, to see how he progresses.
