Despite frustrating fantasy football owners all over the country, and sports-talk shows invoking words like “bust” and “regression,” there are actually some areas where Jameis Winston is excelling this season.
Winston leads the league in QB Passer Rating when outside of the pocket.
- Jameis Winston, Buccaneers
Passer Rating: 137.3
- Dak Prescott, Cowboys
Passer Rating: 121.8
- Case Keenum, Vikings
Passer Rating: 114.1
- Derek Carr, Raiders
Passer Rating: 113.8
- Aaron Rodgers, Packers
Passer Rating: 103.4
Jameis is 14 of 23 for 248 yards, 3 touchdowns, zero interceptions and zero sacks this season when outside of the pocket.
Which begs the question, why isn’t Dirk Koetter putting him in that position more often?
Despite having more passing attempts overall, Jameis (23) has fewer attempts outside of pocket than Dak Prescott (38), Aaron Rodgers (37), and Case Keenum(41).
Sure, with a sample size as small as 23, there could be a regression in efficiency by increasing the attempts. But at the same time, with numbers that impressive, shouldn’t you be doing more of what has been most effective?
