Bucs & Mike Evans Not in Discussion of Extension – Steven Cotham

“Mike Evans is not in any rush, if contract is not discussed this off-season. We think the Buccaneers are a great organization, we feel that they really care about Mike.” A statement from Mike Evans’ agent, Deryk Gilmore.

This is very true, and Evans is a player the Buccaneers are sure to have their eye on for a future contract. Mike has done wonders for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since being drafted No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.  Even putting him at NO. 14 receiver out of 116 qualifying players, currently sitting in the final year of his four year contract, The Buccaneers did, however, pick up his fifth-year option last April which puts him under the teams control for the 2018 season. Mike will play out his option for 2018 and based on performance, then begin long term negotiations.

The Buccaneers know what Mike Evans can do; his career stats are astonishing to say the least. In the 4 years he has been in the NFL he has only  missed 3 games. His stats are 309 rec, 4,579 yards, 14.8 yard average, 32 TDS, with only 2 fumbles. These are great numbers that suggest a bright future for the Buccaneers and Mike Evans. But are the Buccaneers playing with fire by not jumping on Mike Evans? Mike Evans is a receiver that most teams will have their eye on, that could be a feeding frenzy by next year. So do the Buccaneers need to get a deal done this season, or wait and see what the future of the end of the season holds for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Mike Evans?
