Brate Supporting Winston

Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback when he returns from suspension in Week 3 of the 2018 NFL season. The Florida State product is serving his suspension that stems back to an Uber incident with a female driver. To say that Jameis has been inconsistent since the Buccaneers selected him first overall would be an understatement, but he is the leader of this high-powered offense. Although he is in trouble, Winston still has the respect of his teammates. Cameron Brate commented that,” Winston is the starting quarterback for a reason.” That couldn’t be truer Cam.

Leadership is a quality that you must possess in order to be an NFL quarterback.  Jameis has done some questionable things since coming into the league, but one thing he has always been good at is being a great teammate. The guys in the locker room respect him and will continue to give everything they have for Winston. He has always been a gamer and knows how to get his fellow teammates ready for the week. Winston needs to shore up the off the field issues because that is the only thing holding him back from really reaching his potential.

Since joining the Buccaneers in 2015, Jameis has thrown for over 11,000 yards and has 69 touchdowns. The Buccaneers haven’t had a dynamic quarterback like this since possibly Shaun King. Most Buccaneer fans would probably agree that Winston and King are nowhere near the same caliber of quarterback.  The one knock on Winston is his decision – making late in games. In his three years with Tampa, he now has 44 interceptions.  That number decreased drastically in the 2017 season. He did miss a couple of games due to injury, but he ended the year with 11 interceptions compared to 18 the year before. Jameis has the support of ownership, fellow players, and the fans in Tampa Bay. He will be given every opportunity to get the help needed in order to revive his image in the NFL. Where will Jameis be in 2018 after he comes back from the small suspension that is the million dollar question?
