Running Back, Junior
5’11”, 212 lbs.
Overview: Montgomery is very tough at first contact and shows great balance. He keeps his center of gravity very low and always seems ready for contact. He needs to work on his pass protection skills. Other than that he seems like a polished back who has all the tools to become an every down back in the NFL. The Buccaneers should target him early in the second round. He would be a bargain if still available at that point in the draft.
Pros: Soft hands, great pass catcher out of the back field, excellent at adjusting to the ball. Very tough and physical runner. Excellent contact balance enables him to work for extra yardage. Great lower body strength makes him tough to stop in short-yardage situations.
Cons: Lacks top-end speed to be a breakaway runner. Needs to improve his pass blocking abilities. Needs to anchor better and work on his hand use.
