With Gerald McCoy Gone, What Now?

*Updated to reflect Ian Rapoport report on official timing of release and report of Ndamukong Suh.

As recently reported by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, 9-year veteran DT Gerald McCoy was informed by the team that he will be released by 4pm tomorrow. This has been a hot topic, of course, with the Buccaneers not wanting to budge on McCoy’s $13 million salary. With the release, though, the Bucs now have room to sign their remaining draft picks and potentially bring in a McCoy replacement. The long tenured Buc leaves behind 6 Pro Bowls, and a genuine smile with everyone he greeted in the community. With that said this league is business unfortunately.

Now the Buccaneers can look forward to securing first round pick Devin White among others. But this also leaves a massive hole in the interior line of an already depleted defense. Could Arians be bringing in a replacement for the former Buc?

JC Cornell of DraftNetwork LLC reported it first a few hours ago, and now Ian Rapoport, that Arians may already have his man. Is Ndamakung Suh on his way to playing in pewter this year? Or does Arians have another player in his sights? Whatever the situation may be, the Buccaneers have moved quickly with the news of McCoy and all signs point toward a big time free agent landing in Tampa soon. Suh? Dion Jordan? Kony Ealy? Zach Moore?

Stay tuned as we keep you updated on this developing story.
