Days ago I speculated that there might be an in-house coaching competition going on between Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich to be Arians predecessor when he retires. Both coaches are familiar with Bruce Arians’ system and have been validated by the head coach on numerous occasions.
According to Steven Cheah of Barstool Sports who sat down with Jay Glazer, Glazer gave some great insight on the coaching staff in Tampa Bay. Some of it may even be a little surprising. Check out the report:
Really enjoyed talking football w/ @JayGlazer today. Gave great insight on the Bucs saying if Bruce Arians’ health were to ever become an issue, DC Todd Bowles would take over HC duties, not Assistant Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator Harold Goodwin or OC Byron Leftwich pic.twitter.com/xWtbTVh0q0

So was Leftwich never really in the running to take over as lead man? Did Arians let Bowles know it was his job to lose? If anything, it should be fuel for Leftwich to prove himself worthy of play caller this season. Interesting take.
