It’s “Miller Time”

Congratulations go out to rookie wide receiver, sixth-round pick Scotty Miller who got engaged to his beautiful fiancée Jenna this past weekend as announced by the Buccaneers via this tweet. If you’re not yet familiar with the story of this young man, perhaps now is the time.

Miller’s Path

Miller’s path to the Buccaneer wide receiving corps has been a tale of persistence. With rookies reporting on July 22, this is just the kind of story you look forward to following heading into camp.

Not heavily scouted out of high school, Miller would finally be recruited by the Bowling Green Falcons. Despite leading the Mid-American Conference in receptions per game and receiving yards, he was left off of the All-MAC first team. Again, persistence.

Not invited to the NFL combine, Miller would put all of his energy into the BGSU Pro Day. The overlooked wide receiver would open some eyes with 15 reps of 225 on the bench, a 34-inch vertical, and what some clocked at a 4.3 in the 40. The Buccaneers would draft the 5-foot-11, 180-pound “persistent flash” in the sixth-round (208 overall), with the draft pick acquired from Philadelphia in the DeShaun Jackson trade.

Losing slot receiver Adam Humphries to the Tennessee Titans via free agency, and Jackson via trade was tough. A talent like Miller who possesses traits of both receivers and moves inside and out with ease will make his progress a storyline this preseason.

Camp Awaits

Many congratulations to Scotty and Jenna on your engagement. Take some time. Enjoy the next couple of days. Then, Scotty, report to camp and show us that persistence you have become known for as you engage the coaches with the thought of needing “Miller Time” on this Buccaneers squad in 2019.
