Rookie kicker crushes 55-yard field goal in his pro debut

The kicking situation for the Buccaneers has been an issue recently. Who am I kidding, it has been an issue for a while now.

Earlier this year when Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht spent yet another draft pick on a kicker you could nearly hear the collective rolling of eyes around the Tampa Bay area. That draft pick made his debut last night in Pittsburgh. While his action was limited he did crush a record-setting 55-yarder in a stadium notorious for giving kickers issues.

Gay has been performing well in training camp and is embroiled in a kicking battle with incumbent Cairo Santos. Friday night in Pittsburgh wasn’t practice and the rookie was up to the task.
