Buccaneers Name Team Captains

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced who their captains will be, finally. I will actually admit that I forgot that the team hadn’t actually chosen any captains as Bowles wanted to wait til later in the season to see who deserves it. Well, it’s later in the season, and I want to talk about it.

There is no surprise that Mike Evans and Tristan Wirfs are captains. They are two of the best in the league in their position. Right now, Wirfs is literally the best LT in the league. And this is his first year at LT. So, I think it’s safe to say he’s a pretty decent player.

While I can’t say I was shocked that Baker Mayfield was named team captain, I was still happy he got it. It seemed to mean a lot to him as he called it the highest honor. It just shows how the team has really responded to him, which is great to see. And I was just shocked to learn this is the first time Chris Godwin was captain.

On the defensive side, there are no real surprises. Devin White, Vita Vea, Antoine Winfield Jr, and some guy named Lavonte David. Every single one of those guys is a leader at their respective positions. Antoine Winfield is basically a vet at this point despite being in a contract year. Vita Vea led the team in sacks last year and currently leads the team now. Despite White’s sitout, he is still very much a leader alongside David. Though it does seem kind of silly to see four guys on both sides be captains, I can’t say they don’t deserve the honor.
