Dirk Koetter weighs in on Chris Conte’s progress

Monday, after training camp, Coach Koetter took some time to discuss the progress he has seen in Bucs safety, Chris Conte, since OTAs and mini camp.

“First off, Chris is really athletic,” Koetter said. “Chris almost is as athletic as a corner. He can really run, he’s long, I think Chris’ confidence is up right now. He, maybe in the past, would get down on himself a little too much, for no reason in my opinion. I think Chris is doing well.”

Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean Conte is guaranteed a starting spot for the 2017 season considering he still is in competition with J.J. Wilcox, Keith Tandy, and Justin Evans for the spot. The coaches are carefully considering each of these guys and should have a better idea as training camp progresses.

“It’s also been good with keeping Chris working with that first group, J.J. and Justin Evans have really showed. Justin Evans is another like McNichols that missed some time in the spring.”

Although Conte had an inconsistent 2015 season with the Bucs, he redeemed himself a bit in 2016 by earning some interceptions, and scoring a touchdown; helping the team along in a 5 game winning streak. He did miss 2 games during the season due to a chest injury, but it looks like all of that is behind him and it’s good to hear he is making progress.
