Gerald McCoy heads to his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl this year and has also been voted team captain by his teammates. As impressive as it is to be a part of his sixth straight Pro Bowl, being named team captain is the icing on the cake.
McCoy is easily the rock on our defensive line, and regardless of receiving unnecessary negative comments from fans through social media, he has given his all year in and year out. Despite only recording 5 sacks this season, he is second among all defensive tackles in the NFL with 12 tackles for loss.
During an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, McCoy stated that every player has personal goals and that you will rarely ever hear him speak about his. He mentioned that he has a former Buccaneers defensive lineman (Warren Sapp) that he talks to regularly and sees as a mentor. He stated that his mentor has done seven consecutive Pro Bowls, and that is something he is chasing as well.
GMAC will continue to give his all for this city and this team. There is no doubt in my mind that McCoy will catch #99’s seven consecutive Pro Bowl record, and will likely surpass his mentor in Pro Bowl appearances.
