The Buccaneers have plans to keep all of their training camp players until the final cut day after the week 4 preseason game. Shaun Wilson has been making good moves this entire off-season by showing the coaches that he is versatile at playing running back in the NFL. Will it be enough though to make the 53-man roster?
Shaun Wilson stats at Duke:
• 2014 598 rushing yards, 5 TDs
• 2015 424 rushing yards, 3 TDs
• 2016 623 Rushing Yards, 4 TDs
• 2017 818 Rushing Yards, 6 TDs
Those stats don’t exactly jump out at you at first glance, especially when he’s compared to the other running backs like Ronald Jones II. Wilson was very useful to Duke when his number was called. Wilson made significant contributions to the Blue Devils by leading in all-purpose yards and receptions in his final year at Duke. If Wilson can impress the coaches by playing special teams then he would have a good chance to make the 53-man roster. If he continues to perform well he could possibly even start to return kicks.
In my opinion, I’m not sure who will make the 53-man roster at running back and who won’t. It’s really going to depend on who gets the most playing time and who does the best when they get the chance to play. Nevertheless, Wilson will have to give it all he’s got when he gets to play in one of these last three preseason games.
