It has been reported that former Buccaneer defensive line coach Brentson Buckner has landed the same role on the west coast with the Oakland Raiders per Greg Auman of the Athletic.
Last season the lowly defensive line took a step or two forward as Buckner was the coach in his lone season with the Bucs in 2018. In the season he took them from a league-low 22 sacks to 38, which was good for 19th in the league.
While 19th is not superb, an extra sack-per-game increase is very respectable. If Buckner was given another season, one wonders whether he would have gotten even more out of this unit. Instead, he will be working with an Oakland unit that was last in the league in sacks in 2018 with 13.
