Report: Bucs Expected To Sign RB Peyton Barber To Multi-Year Deal

It is being reported by Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to sign RB Peyton Barber to a multi-year extension prior to the official start of free agency at 4:00PM EST on March 13th. The details of such a deal are unknown at this time.

If Tampa Bay is unable to come to terms with the restricted free agent on a long-term deal, they will tender Barber to a one-year deal worth about $3 million. If another team were to sign Barber away, the Bucs would receive a 2nd round draft pick as compensation.

This news comes on the heels of a meeting with HC Bruce Arians and his staff during the “Coaches Krew” night where he said Barber surprised him out of the entire team. He went on to state that the Bucs “have a running back” in Barber.

Tampa Bay seems to genuinely see potential in Barber becoming the featured back for the team. And not just a short-term answer at RB.

Peyton Barber was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2016.

Last season Barber went off for 963 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns. Barber has earned every carry he has had up to this point, and could maybe have earned him a permanent starting gig in Tampa Bay.
