It has been widely reportedly that after stalled contract extension talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that LB Kwon Alexander will be testing free agency. He is seeking $12 million per year.
Despite the Bucs being optimistic on bringing back Alexander, it seems as though it is all but certain he has played his last down as a Buccaneer. Today he texted a group of his teammates to tell them goodbye, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
#Buccaneers LB Kwon Alexander texted a group of his Tampa teammates a short while ago telling them he's going to miss them, source says. We'll see where he winds up but he's obviously not expecting it to be Tampa. Deal expected to be in the $12m/$13m per year range.

A follow up reply to Garafolo’s tweet from Bucs LB Lavonte David questioned who told Garafolo this information.
Whose your source? 🤔

Even though David, not anyone, else denied receiving a text from Alexander. And Garafolo isn’t tipping his hand on who his source is either.
To be clear the team nor the players have confirmed that such a message was distributed, and it is being spread by initial reports from national media. That said, it adds an interesting layer in the Alexander free agency story.
GM Jason Licht has called Alexander the “heart and soul” of the defense. Well the team may need to find a new heart and search for some more soul, as Alexander is looking to cash in.
